Squid Game: new fried chicken concept launches spicy challenge with Netflix show

Netflix has teamed up with hospitality group Sessions to put on a menu to celebrate the third series of dystopian thriller Squid Game.

The third season, the most-watched Netflix TV programme of all time with more than 260 million views, will premiere in the UK on June 27, as a new band of cash-strapped “contestants” take part in a host of deadly challenges for a cash prize.

Sessions, a “growth platform” which has worked with the likes of SoBe Burger, Chick n Sours – sadly closing down this year – and Little Bao Boy has put together a menu based around the fictional Korean game show, promising “immersive” dishes.

Squid Game fans will be able to order the “Front Man’s Challenge”, a chicken wing-themed board game where contestants (customers) will be asked to don gloves and roll a dice to determine which they have to eat. Wings will come with unknown spice levels – from mild to “very hot”.

Also on the menu are a variety of fried chicken burgers. One, medium hot, will come with chilli mayo, coleslaw and cheese, while a spicy version will be topped with ssamjang, buldak sauce and spring onions. Sides will include waffle fries with various condiments and toppings.

“We're always looking for ways to bring original food experiences to people's homes and partnering with Netflix on Squid Game is exactly that kind of opportunity," said Dan Warne from Sessions.

"The show has this incredible global following and we've created a menu that lets fans dive deeper into that world.”

The menu is available via delivery platform Just Eat from today (June 13). The Standard was told there’s no end date confirmed at the moment.

Meals start at £9.49, though are around £17 for one or £26 for two to play the game properly.
