Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama Practicing Skyhook as Possible Addition to Repertoire

No. 1 pick Victor Wembanyama is getting closer to making his official NBA debut with the Spurs this fall, and he’s apparently trying to add another move to his arsenal.

The skyhook, popularized by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar decades ago, was the 7’2” superstar’s most unguardable move. The Hall of Famer perfected the shot, which saw him extend the ball above his head with one arm before deftly flicking it into the basket.

The move has lost popularity over time, but Wembanyama seems ready to bring it back to the league, even if it’s not right at the start of his career this fall.

“I’ve been working a little bit on my skyhook, Kareem skyhook,” Wembanyama told Bleacher Report. “Hopefully some day that can be a weapon to add.”

At over 7’3”, Wembanyama will already pose a problem for anyone unlucky enough to be tasked with defending him. If he adds another unguardable move to his repertoire, look out.
