SPRC faces B39m suit over oil spill

RAYONG: Restaurant and hotel entrepreneurs at Mae Ramphueng beach and Koh Samet yesterday filed a lawsuit against Star Petroleum Refining Public Co Ltd (SPRC) to demand 38.8 million baht in compensation for recent oil spills that have harmed the area.

Representatives of 38 plaintiffs -- all entrepreneurs -- gathered at Rayong Provincial Court on Tuesday. They said they lodged the civil lawsuit because the spill in January affected their businesses.

The event was also joined by Sarinthip Tupmongkholsup, president of the Tourism Association of Koh Samet, and Prasert Sirimaha, chair of the Mae Ramphueng Beach Food Service group.

The entrepreneurs said that they had discussed compensation with SPRC for over seven months, however, no progress had been made.
