Spotify, Nvidia Lead Five Stocks Right At Buy Points

Spotify, Nvidia, Millrose Properties, Vistra and Howmet Aerospace lead this week's list of stocks to watch with the market pushing to record highs.

Investors can buy stocks with a 21-day average true range (ATR) of up to 8%, but should remain cautious about concentrating too heavily in volatile names.

The average true range is a metric available on IBD's MarketSurge that gauges the characteristic breadth of a stock's behavior. Stocks with a high ATR tend to make large price moves that can trigger sell rules. Stocks with lower ATRs tend to make more incremental moves.

Spotify is actionable from a trendline entry, while Howmet has topped a short-term high. Nvidia and Millrose Properties are near early entry signals. Vistra is pausing just below a buy point.

Spotify Stock

Spotify Technology on Monday announced upgrades to its service for free users, allowing them to search and play any song they want without shuffling the selection. The Stockholm-based company earlier this month launched high-quality, lossless music streaming for its paying users.

Spotify ended the second quarter with 276 million subscribers worldwide, after adding 8 million paying users in Q2. Also, Spotify tallied 696 million monthly active users (MAUs) in the June quarter.

SPOT stock was the IBD Stock Of The Day for Thursday.

Spotify is just below a 748.30 buy point for an eleven-week cup-with-handle base.

SPOT is actionable from clearing a trendline entry and short-term highs on Thursday.

Shares were added to SwingTrader on Thursday as a half position.

Spotify stock has rallied more than 64% so far this year and hit a record high of 785 on June 27.

The S&P 500 component ranks 2nd in the Computer Software-Education/Media group according to the IBD Stock Checkup.

Nvidia Stock

Nvidia edged lower for the week but finished strong. China reportedly has told big Chinese tech companies not the buy the Nvidia AI chips, pushing NVDA below the 50-day moving average. But shares reclaimed that critical level on Thursday as the chip giant announced a partnership with Intel. Per the agreement, the pair will collaborate to develop a custom data center and PC products. Nvidia is also investing $5 billion in Intel stock.

NVDA stock has a 184.48 buy point for a flat base.

Investors could use its short-term high of 180.28 as an early entry opportunity, with Friday's high of 178.08 as an aggressive entry from a short trendline.

Nvidia stock has advanced 31.5% in 2025.

Millrose Properties Stock

Millrose Properties is a residential land developer that completed its spinoff from Lennar in early February. Unlike typical homebuilders, Millrose specializes in the acquisition, preparation and sale of land to construction firms, who then build the homes.

The capital from sales is recycled into future land acquisitions for homebuilders, providing customers with uninterrupted access to capital, according to the company's prospectus.

MRP shares have found support at their 21-day exponential moving average. The stock now has a three-weeks-tight pattern with a potential 35.33 entry.

Millrose could have a flat base in a couple weeks, which would have a 36 buy point matching its high from Aug. 28.

If the flat base does materialize, that could give the stock's fast-rising 10-week line a chance to catch up.

Millrose Properties has rallied 80% from its low of 19 during its New York Stock Exchange debut on Feb. 5.

Vistra Stock

Nuclear play Vistra has powered 53% higher this year amid the AI and data center boom.

The stock earlier this month rebounded back above its 50-day line and recovered from a late-August pullback sparked by concerns about a potential AI bubble.

Now, shares are trading near a 216.85 buy point for a cup base, matching their record high from Aug. 5. VST briefly topped that level on Sept. 15, but has never closed above that key level.

In addition to Vistra's nuclear energy offerings, the Texas-based company has natural gas capabilities. Vistra in May agreed to acquire seven natural gas generation facilities from Lotus Infrastructure Partners for nearly $2 billion.

Company executives at the end of its second quarter said they expect to spend a little more than $700 million on solar and energy storage projects this year, including contracts with Amazon.com and Microsoft.

Howmet Stock

Leaderboard member Howmet Aerospace was Friday's IBD Stock Of The Day.

The Pittsburgh-based outfit supplies aircraft parts, including engine turbine blades, for both new commercial jets and those already in service, as well as for military aircraft such as the F-35. The company's clients include manufacturing giants like GE Aerospace, Boeing, Airbus, Lockheed Martin and RTX's Pratt & Whitney division.

Defense contractors have trended up this year, driven by proposed increases to the U.S. defense budget, greater spending commitments from NATO, and ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and Europe. Civilian aircraft demand also is solid.

HWM stock is climbing up the right side of a shallow cup base, trading below a 193.26 buy point. The entry matches Howmet's record high from July 30.

The buy zone, which extends 5% beyond the buy point, stretches to 202.92.

HWM stock tumbled July 31 following Q2 results and had trended lower for three weeks.

Shares reclaimed their 50-day line on Sept. 10 and have kept climbing, clearing a short-term high of 190.29 on Thursday. That move offered an early entry opportunity.

Howmet Aerospace has rallied nearly 74% this year.
