Sporting 'rubbing their hands together' as Man Utd set to incur Bruno Fernandes charge

Sporting Lisbon are reportedly 'rubbing their hands together' in anticipation of receiving a further £9million from Manchester United for Bruno Fernandes.

The Red Devils signed the Portuguese on deadline day in the January transfer window, paying £42million up front for his services.

United agreed to pay Sporting a further £25million in variable bonuses, but the Portuguese club would have to wait for these to be triggered.

As reported on Monday, the first contract clause requires United to pay Sporting £4.5million after Fernandes makes 20 appearances for the Old Trafford club.

Currently, Fernandes has made 18 appearances, but United have four games left to play this season, meaning Sporting will be due this cash soon.

United also agreed to pay Sporting £4.5million after qualifying for the Champions League.

The Red Devils didn't look likely to qualify for the European competition when Fernandes joined, but six months on they are just two wins away from doing so.

In total, Sporting are set to make £9million in the summer from United.

And according to Portuguese publication A Bola, the Lisbon club  is 'rubbing its hands together' in anticipation of a pay day.

United will have no qualms paying the money for Fernandes, especially if they do indeed qualify for the Champions League.

Fernandes has been a revelation for the Red Devils, and the club would also be due a large payout for qualifying for Europe's premier competition.
