Spirit of Shankly call for 'legality' check over treatment of Liverpool fans before Napoli game

Liverpool supporters group Spirit of Shankly have contacted Football Supporters Europe to query the 'legality' of checks on fans before the game against Napoli.

The Reds kicked off their Champions League campaign with a trip to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona tonight, to face a Napoli side unbeaten in Serie A this season. Thousands of fans have made the trip across to Italy for the opening group stage clash hoping to see their side win in Naples at the fourth time of asking.

But images and footage before the game kicked off appeared to show fans being photographed alongside identification and their match ticket before being allowed to board a coach to the stadium. And fans group Spirit of Shankly confirmed shortly after that they have questioned the legality of this.

Their official Twitter account tweeted: "We are aware of fans having their photographs taken before getting on the coaches to the stadium for tonight’s game #NapoliLiverpool - we have asked Football Supporters Europe to look into the legality of this."

Travelling fan Peter Rigby posted a video on social media of the process in action, with Liverpool fans lined up outside the coach, identification and ticket in hand while one man takes photos and another seemingly records the whole process.
