Spider season is back - but do you need to be afraid?

Autumn has its upsides - cosy nights in, leaves falling off the trees.

One thing that ain't so good though?

The spiders.

As the nights draw in, those eight-legged rascals are making their way into our homes once again.

And not just for warmth - according to the experts it's breeding season too, so they're in our homes looking for a mate, with females seeking shelter to lay their eggs.

And is it just us or are they getting bigger?

Either way, they're giving plenty of us the heebeejeebees - so are they really worth being scared of?

We've called in the experts to find out.

According to Ulster Wildlife , no.

A live and let live approach is the best option, says Adam Mantell.

"Don't worry: they are not dangerous and actually do us a favour by keeping household pests and bugs under control," he said.

"If you do find a spider in your house, don’t panic and don’t kill it unless you prefer pesky flies of course!

"Simply put a glass over it and slide a piece of paper beneath it and take it outside. Remember, spiders are harmless and beneficial to the environment, so please treat them humanely.

"You may never learn to love spiders, but you should definitely learn to live with them."
