A miracle is happening: We’re getting a fourth Spider-Man film. Not a Tobey Maguire/Sam Raimi joint, that ship has sailed. But finally a fourth film in a Spidey franchise! And we’re getting some great casting with it.
Today, The Hollywood Reporter released some new casting for the film which helps to shape up who Peter Parker (Tom Holland) will have on his side and who he’s going to be fighting: Mark Ruffalo is coming back as the Hulk in the new movie, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton. In addition to Ruffalo, Michael Mando (aka the Scorpion in Homecoming) is returning as well. The two join the cast of Holland and Frank Castle himself Jon Bernthal.
The news is exciting because honestly we don’t know where in the universe Bruce Banner was during No Way Home. Does this mean he might be the only person to know who Peter Parker is? Or is Peter Parker going to build a relationship with Bruce Banner again without the Hulk knowing that he is…well aware of who Spider-Man used to be?
Scorpion potentially being a villain is exciting too because it continues the legacy of the Tom Holland movies of having lesser explored villains at the center of the story. With Vulture (Michael Keaton) and Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) taking on Peter in his first two films, a movie with Spidey vs. Scorpion would be a first and I’d be fun to see! We also don’t know yet where Spidey and the Punisher will stand with each other.
Overall, the news has me excited because I never thought we’d actually see a fourth Spidey movie. Tom Holland is my favorite of the live-action heroes and if that means that we’re on the road to a fourth great movie with him, I am fully on board. Mark Ruffalo and Michael Mando just makes that deal a little bit sweeter.
