SPFL transfer round-up: Hearts ace seals Premiership move as free agent joins Falkirk

St Johnstone have signed central midfielder Macaulay Tait from Hearts on a two-year contract.

The 20-year-old made 16 first-team appearances for Hearts and played 62 times during loan spells with Livingston over the past 18 months.

Tait told St Johnstone’s website: “How much the club and the gaffer wanted me was a great start to all of this.

“I watched the team play a lot of the Friday night games last season and know a couple of players – Josh McPake and Adam Forrester – who have been here in the past. They spoke so highly of the place.

“I felt it was the right place to continue my journey. The club has momentum coming into the top flight, and it seems a really positive place to be. The boys play good football and I’ll just be looking to come in and add to that.”

Elsewhere, Dunfermline have signed goalkeeper Aston Oxborough from Motherwell for an undisclosed fee following a successful loan spell last season.

The 28-year-old helped the Pars into the Scottish Cup final and William Hill Premiership play-offs semi-final, although he was briefly recalled by Motherwell and missed the second-leg defeat by Partick Thistle.

Oxborough made 32 appearances for Well before a series of injuries hindered his progress, and kept seven clean sheets in 15 games for Neil Lennon’s side.

Finally, Ryan Strain has joined Falkirk on a one-year contract after being released by Dundee United.

The 29-year-old former St Mirren right-back had been training with other free agents at a camp put on by PFA Scotland.

Falkirk manager John McGlynn told the club’s official website: “I’ve mentioned in recent interviews that Keelan Adams has had an operation and has approximately another nine weeks of recovery ahead of him, provided there are no setbacks. Jack McMillan is also injured at the moment, so I felt we needed to strengthen in that area.

“Ryan is a proven Premiership player who has performed consistently at this level for both St Mirren and Dundee United.

"He knows the league inside out, understands exactly what is required and comes in ready to make an immediate impact, so this isn’t a gamble in any way whatsoever.”
