The Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) has announced a new four-year licensing extension with Sports Interactive, ensuring that all 42 SPFL clubs will remain fully represented in Football Manager through the 2028-29 season.
The deal continues the long-standing agreement between the two entities, keeping official SPFL club names, crests, kits, and player photos in Football Manager 26 and future editions. The extension was described as being agreed on “improved terms,” reaffirming Sports Interactive’s commitment to showcasing Scottish football across its global player base.
The SPFL’s presence in Football Manager has consistently drawn impressive engagement from players worldwide. According to data shared by Sports Interactive, over 1.4 million career saves were started with SPFL sides in FM24, leading to 1.8 million in-game trophies lifted — including 1.4 million league titles and 400,000 cup victories. The most-managed Scottish clubs in FM24 included Rangers, Celtic, Aberdeen, Hearts, Hibernian, Dundee United, Motherwell, Falkirk, Peterhead, and The Spartans, who joined the ranks just in time for FM24‘s launch.
Fans will continue to compete across all four professional divisions of Scottish football — the William Hill Premiership, Championship, League One, and League Two — as well as the Premier Sports Cup and KDM Evolution Trophy.
SPFL Group Chief Executive Neil Doncaster welcomed the deal, noting that the Football Manager series has become a key platform for global exposure.
“We know fans across the country love the Football Manager series, so it’s great to confirm a longer-term partnership with Sports Interactive. The game gives us a fantastic platform to continue showcasing Scottish football and our competitions to millions of players worldwide.”
Sports Interactive Studio Director Miles Jacobson added:
“We’re delighted to have extended our long-running partnership with the SPFL. As the data shows, the Scottish leagues are among the most popular in our games, and we look forward to seeing that continue with FM26 and beyond.”
