Speed camera set on fire in 'mindless' and deliberate act

A speed camera has been set on fire after a "mindless" and deliberate act.

Cheshire Police were called to the A562 Speke Road in Widnes at around 12.55am on February 28 following reports a speed camera had been set alight. The force is now urging anyone with information to come forward.

Cheshire Police believe it was a deliberate act and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information or dashcam footage is being urged to get in touch.

Police Constable Gary Ellison said: "This mindless act has now left the public having to pay out to replace the speed camera which is a complete waste of taxpayers money. This stretch of road has now been left without a speed camera which is there to protect motorists from harm.

"We are appealing to anyone who may have been in and around the area and may have seen something that didn’t look quite right. The same goes to anyone who may have dashcam footage from the area.

"Any information, no matter how big or small, could assist us in tracing the person responsible."

Anyone with information is asked to report it to Cheshire Police via the Cheshire Police website quoting IML 1489476 or call 101.
