Spare a thought for entrepreneurs

If Channel 4 runs out of ideas for a new reality show - perish the thought - what about "At home with the Johnsons"? Monkey only asks after Channel 4 chairman Luke Johnson and his wife Liza gave a fascinating insight into their home life in today's Financial Times. Johnson, a regular FT columnist and entrepreneur, was mulling on the perils of living with ... an entrepreneur. "What do you need to marry an entrepreneur? Beauty? Wealth? Intelligence? Perhaps all three - but more than anything you should possess the virtue of tolerance," says Luke. Liza J appears to agree in an addendum to her husband's musings on FT.com. "Living with an entrepreneur is a mixed blessing," she says. "Their hours are often long, meetings sometimes spill into the evenings or weekends and the BlackBerry is ubiquitous - even occasionally appearing when we're away on holiday. The pressure can produce some surreal results. A few years ago we had a four-day round trip to Vietnam - the trip was meant to last 10 days but Luke felt he had to get back to business in a hurry. Entrepreneurs take risks for a living so life is not quiet." Neither is it quiet for some of the Channel 4 man's friends and acquaintances. He knows one billionaire who "dumped his first wife and then married his secretary. Sadly, he still treats her like an employee and their relationship is a sham". And a chap who ignored his advice and married an "eastern European gold digger", only to suffer "a very public divorce which cost him several million pounds". It's not easy being an entrepreneur.
