Queensland's southeast has been soaked by heavy overnight rain, with falls of more than 150mm in the Goondiwindi region and a low pressure system poised to deliver more showers and storms.
A major flood warning is current for the Macintyre River, which is expected to peak at up to 9.9 metres at Goondiwindi early Monday morning.
Up to 80mm was recorded across the state's southern corner in the 24 hours to 9am Saturday, with an isolated fall of 156mm at Canning Creek.
More than 100mm also fell at Maleny on the Sunshine Coast and over 80mm at Bellthorpe in the Moreton Bay area. Brisbane recorded 22mm.
"This is the beginning of an intense heavy weather system, not the end," Minister for Fire and Emergency Services Mark Ryan said on Sunday.
"Please make sure you have plans around your own safety, around being prepared for a heavy intense weather system."
The State Emergency Service has received 167 requests for assistance since 5am on Saturday, mostly in Brisbane and on the Sunshine and Fraser coasts, and mostly for leaky roofs and minor sandbagging.
The Bureau of Meteorology said flood waters were meanwhile moving through the MacIntyre River catchment from heavy rain over the previous 48 hours.
A peak was current in the Holdfast area and likely to meet flood waters arriving from the Dumaresq River and MacIntyre Brook.
The Macintyre at Goondiwindi is at 8.95 metres and rising, with a likely peak between 9.6m and 9.9m, higher than levels reached during flooding last month.
River and stream rises are also occurring along the upper Weir River and across Wyaga, Warrill and Commoron creeks from recent rainfall.
The weather bureau says further showers and isolated storms are in store for the state's south and southeast, with heavy to locally-intense falls possible around coastal parts.
There is a risk of severe weather about the southern interior, with damaging winds, large hail and heavy rain, while isolated showers and storms are also on the cards for the North Tropical Coast and Peninsula.
Monday will bring more rain to the far southeast, with the risk of a severe thunderstorm about southern, southeastern and central Queensland.
