Southampton set to be without six players for Liverpool Premier League clash

Southampton face the prospect of being without six key players for this weekend's clash with Liverpool at Anfield.

The Reds take on Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side on Saturday knowing nothing but a win will be good enough to keep their slim top four hopes alive.

Jurgen Klopp’s side currently sit seventh in the Premier League table, seven points behind Chelsea, but the Reds do have a game in hand on the Stamford Bridge club.

While Southampton currently find themselves in 15th, 10 points above the drop zone, and come into the game on the back of a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Leicester City last time out.

But the Saints can confirm their survival this weekend should they win at Anfield while West Brom and Fulham lose.

Hasenhuttl’s side are set to arrive on Merseyside without six players for the game, subject to an official FA appeal.

The club are still waiting for news as to whether Jannik Vestergaard's first-half red card during Friday night's draw against Leicester will be overturned.

While Danny Ings, Ryan Bertrand, Oriol Romeu and Will Smallbone are all also expected to miss out through injury, with Takumi Minamino ineligible to feature against his parent club.

Hasenhuttl has also revealed that following a meeting with his goalkeepers, Fraser Forster will start at Anfield in place of Alex McCarthy, who impressed against Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Speaking about his goalkeeper plans for Saturday night, Hasenhuttl said: "Alex did well. I think they both deserve to play.

"They've both been important and they've both shown that they can be good goalkeepers for us.

"I want to give both keepers a chance to play. Each 'keeper will get two games so Fraser Forster will play the next two games, because I want to give him a chance to play."
