South Manchester pub forced to close for deep clean after staff member tests positive for coronavirus

A pub in Fallowfield has been forced to temporarily close after a member of staff contracted Covid-19.

The Friendship Inn on Wilmslow Road will be shut until Thursday (September 3) while the venue undergoes a deep clean.

Bosses say there is no reason for customers to be concerned, but urged anyone with symptoms to follow government guidelines.

They reassured punters that stringent policies are in place for such an incident - and that the safety of customers remained their priority.

In a statement on Facebook, they said: "Unfortunately one member of our staff team has been tested positive for Covid-19. We have therefore temporarily closed the premises as a precaution.

"We have stringent policies in place to deal with such an incident and the safety of our customers and staff remain our utmost priority.

"As a responsible operator, we have taken the decision to perform a deep clean of the premises and we will re-open again for business on Thursday 3rd September as normal.

"Whilst there is no immediate cause for concern, as always, if you do display any symptoms of Covid-19 please protect others and follow the government guidelines.

"We are following all the necessary protocols and guidance at this time."
