A team of South Lanarkshire students have proved they’ve got what it takes as they served up their skills to hospitality stars.
HNC Pastry students and staff from the East Kilbride based college served dessert to 320 people at one of Glasgow’s top hotels at the annual Hospitality Industry Trust (HIT) lunch.
Established in 1994, HIT Scotland supports people working and studying in the hospitality industry across Scotland. HIT’s aim is to broaden skills and experience through a range of learning programmes and scholarships.
HIT Scotland’s annual lunch was designed to raise funds for the trust and allow students the opportunity to hone their skills in one of Scotland’s top hotels.
The event, which was held earlier this month, was hosted by journalist and radio presenter, Tam Cowan.
At the lunch, students made and served the guests a chocolate dome with orange curd and chocolate mousse dessert.
There was also a Glasgow traffic cone made from chocolate.
The famous cone that resides on the head of the statue of the Duke of Wellington was the main theme of the event and traffic cones could be seen throughout the lunch.
Pastry chef lecturer, Helen Vass said: “I’m thrilled that our students had the chance to take part in this year’s HIT Scotland lunch.
“It was wonderful to see our students try out the skills they have learned in class in at such a fantastic occasion.
“Experiences like the HIT lunch ensures they will be ready to thrive when they leave College in what is a fast-paced and ever-evolving industry. We had a great day”
