Three alleged burglaries in a single night have left a young Farrer family fearful after hooded men broke into their cars and garage, escaping with valuables including tools worth more than $6000.
The brazen incident on June 28 comes after the family's home was allegedly broken into in January, during which their car was stolen and later found torched just a few kilometres away.
The south Canberra family, who have a two-year-old and a newborn baby, live near Farrer Primary School.
They woke up to find their vehicles and garage ransacked.
"My husband went outside about 7.30am and noticed the garage was open. He came inside and asked if I had opened it. We assumed our two-year-old had accidentally triggered it from the inside, as we were rushing to leave for our daughter's dance concert at 9.30am," recalled the young mother, who spoke on the condition of anonymity fearing a fresh attempt on their home.
"As we got into my husband's car, he asked why I had taken all his coins. He then noticed the garage remote was gone, and we realised we had been robbed."
The family immediately checked their home CCTV security footage, which left them frozen in fear.
"They first came at 12.57am and broke into both cars. They found the garage remote in one of the vehicles, opened the garage, and ran. They came back with a second person at 1.16am and stole $5000 worth of Makita tools, a $1000 compound bow, and other items," she said.
The hooded gang returned to the house a third time at 2.51am to steal more valuables.
"We were inside sleeping and didn't hear a thing. It was horrible."
MORE COURT AND CRIME:
This is the second time the Farrer family has been targeted by burglars in five months.
"In January, our house was broken into, our car was stolen and set alight, and other items were taken," the mother said.
That vehicle was later found charred at the Richardson shops, several kilometres from their home.
ACT Policing confirmed they received a report regarding a burglary at the Farrer residence in the early hours of June 28.
"The alleged offenders gained access to a garage after accessing the garage door opener via an unlocked vehicle parked in the driveway," a police spokesperson said.
"Multiple items were stolen during the incident, however, CCTV does not allow identification of the two alleged offenders."
Police have urged anyone with information about the burglary or the identity of the offenders to contact Crime Stoppers via www.crimestoppers.com.au, quoting reference number 8428043.
