South Ayrshire Council say bogus workmen are exploiting coronavirus lockdown to offer waste uplifts for cash

Scammers posing as South Ayrshire Council employees have been offering to collect waste in exchange for cash.

The authority has issued a warning to all residents today to be on their guard against the doorstep fraudsters.

Bogus door to door salesmen have been using the cover of the coronavirus crisis to strike.

And it has been revealed that uplifts are being offered as part of deals around the county.

A council statement read: "South Ayrshire Council staff will NEVER go door to door selling uplifts.

Please:
• Say no to doorstep callers offering waste disposal, and if they persist call 0300 123 0900 and ask for Trading Standards;
• Be aware that all door to door sales are prohibited during the coronavirus (COVID-19) emergency;
• Be aware of online/social media scams – always make sure you choose a licensed waste carrier to uplift your waste."
