The rumour mill is positively aflutter with speculation that Sophie Turner and Chris Martin are dating, fresh off their respective splits from Peregrine Pearson and Dakota Johnson.
The source of all the chatter is the Daily Mail, which reports that Sophie went on a “secret date” with Chris after quietly calling it quits with Peregrine, a British aristocrat, in late September.
Sophie and Perry were reportedly last seen together at a high-society wedding early last month, where they were apparently spotted switching between bickering and feverishly macking on while on the dance floor. You know, typical wedding behaviour.
Chris, meanwhile, was confirmed to have split from Dakota back in June after eight years of dating, with insiders claiming at the time that the pair’s age-gap, and their differing views on whether to have children, were responsible for the break up.
Now both in their single eras, Chris and Sophie have supposedly moved on with each other, though details of their rumoured romance remain scarce.
While any such reports should be taken with a grain (or bucketload) of salt, the pair do have a confirmed connection, and it’s thanks to Sophie’s ex, Joe Jonas.
As part of his show Cup of Joe in 2020, Joe — who was married to Sophie from 2019 to 2023 — enlisted Chris for a surprise message celebrating her birthday.
A clearly excited Sophie squealed when realising the video message was from Chris, who sent her “all my love” and thanked her “for being awesome”.
Of course, it could just be a platonic message to a superfan, and Sophie and Chris’ messy dating histories make rumours of their romance all the more unclear.
Chris and Dakota were first thought to have split in August of last year, but apparently reconciled before officially calling it quits this past June.
In the fallout, reports emerged that Chris’ ex-wife Gwenyth Paltrow still wanted to maintain a friendship with Dakota, before Chris’ seeming nod to Dakota during a Coldplay concert sparked speculation that they hadn’t actually broken up after all.
Sophie, meanwhile, was first linked to Peregrine in November of 2023, before soft-launching the romance with an Instagram post the following year.
Her previous relationship with Joe was plagued with rumours of spying on Joe’s part and being an absentee mother on Sophie’s part, but the pair seemed to be on good terms by May of this year, when the actress shared her support for Joe’s album Music For People Who Believe in Love.
All these messy timelines make it difficult to know for sure whether the Sophie and Chris dating rumours are true.
The cynic in me believes that perhaps they were just having a friendly meeting, but in the year of Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau, absolutely nothing would surprise me.
