Sony launches headphones that offer big features on a more affordable budget

When it comes to ANC headphones, Sony has led the way for many years now.

Last year’s WH1000xM5 remain the best over-ear noise cancellation headphones for all non-Apple users while its WF1000xM4 are up there with the Bose QC Earbuds II and AirPods Pro 2 as the best ANC in-ears.

The firm's almost flagship everyday earphones LinkBuds S earphones also offer top notch sound quality and noise cancellation but at a slightly lower price.

Now Sony is launching two new headphones that offer big features on a much more affordable budget.

Neither of them have a particularly easy to remember name.

Sony WH-CH720n

The company's acclaimed Active Noise Cancelling smarts are the big selling point of the new WH-CH720N.

The all-important ANC ensures you only hear your music and nothing else going on around you.

The smart tech pairs with the firm's clever Headphones app and is powered by Sony's integrated Processor V1.

This aids eliminating external sound.

These headphones also get two microphones in each earcup coupled with a Dual Noise Sensor which also helps reduce the distractions around you.

Other features coming to the WH-CH720N include a lightweight design and comfortable synthetic leather padding.

They also include Sony's Digital Sound Enhancement Engine (DSEE) which produces high-quality audio close to what the creator intended and there is Swift Pair and Fast pair for quick connections to external devices.

This active noise cancelling only costs €160 and the WH-CH720n also get impressive 30-hour battery life.

Sony WH-CH520

The WH-CH520 cost €70 and have no ANC but offer 50-hour battery life and enhanced phone call performance.

The firm promises high-quality microphones tucked inside and noise suppression processing will make calls sound better at both ends.

That's because the suppression tech collects sound and reduces ambient noise so you should be heard even when sitting in a busy cafe.

Like the WH-CH720N, the WH-CH520 include the Digital Sound Enhancement Engine (DSEE), Swift Pair and Fast Pair.

The colourful cans will be available in black, blue, white and beige.

Availability

Both sets of headphones launch in March 2023.
