Sony could release FOLDABLE smartphone this year to take on Samsung and Huawei

Foldable smartphones have certainly been one of the biggest trends in technology this year, with tech giants including Samsung and Huawei unveiling devices.

Now it seems that Sony could soon join suit, according to the latest leaks.

Max J, a reputable leaker, has revealed that Sony is ‘working on a competitor to the Galaxy Fold and Mate X.’

Max tweeted about the new smartphone this week, and even gave a hint at the features we can expect.

This includes a 3,220mAh battery, LG dipslay, Nautilus Design and 10x zoom camera.

He also claims that the retail models could feature a Snapdragon 855 processor, and Qualcomm X50 Modem.

In terms of timeline, Max claims that Sony could unveil the device in December or early 2020.

If true, this suggests that Sony will not reveal the foldable smartphone at the upcoming IFA technology conference, which takes place from 6-11 September.

Mirror Online has contacted Sony for comment.

While both Samsung and Huawei have unveiled foldable smartphones this year, neither has gone without a hitch.

Samsung was originally scheduled to start selling its Galaxy Fold smartphone on May 3, but was forced to delay after several journalists discovered screen flaws during reviews.

Meanwhile, Huawei also delayed the launch of its Mate X smartphone for ‘extra testing’, with a predicted launch date now in September.
