- Sony-Honda Mobility (SHM) unveiled an electric crossover concept at CES 2026.
- Dubbed the Afeela Prototype 2026, it’s set to become the second model in Afeela’s lineup.
- The company was coy on details, but said that the electric SUV is expected to go on sale in the U.S. as early as 2028.
Afeela, the car brand born from the joint venture between Sony and Honda Mobility, unveiled an electric crossover prototype at CES 2026 in Las Vegas, paving the way for the nameplate’s second production model.
Called simply the Afeela Prototype 2026, the coupe-like crossover made a surprise and very brief appearance on stage at the end of Afeela’s CES press conference. The company was tight-lipped about the new EV, with Yasuhide Mizuno, Afeela’s Chairperson and CEO, limiting the flow of information to just two details: the electric SUV offers more space than the Afeela 1 sedan, and the company plans to develop a production model for the United States Market as early as 2028.
Design-wise, the crossover prototype adopts the same simple look of the Afeela 1 sedan, with little to no flourishes. It’s straightforward, just like Honda’s cars are, but it sits a little too close to the edge of bland. The fact that it’s a new, unknown brand won’t help it stand out, either.
There are no photos of the interior, but from the few images that are available, a full-width display can be seen on the dashboard, as well as two individual screens for the rear passengers. A sensor array that looks similar to the one fitted to the sedan can be seen above the windshield.

The car likely sits on the same platform as its sedan sibling, which could entail similar technical specifications. The Afeela 1 is powered by a dual-motor setup that puts down roughly 400 horsepower. Its 91-kilowatt-hour battery pack enables a driving range of approximately 300 miles on a charge, and a Tesla-style NACS charging port can replenish the battery at up to 150 kilowatts.

These are decent specs for 2026, but they’re not exactly groundbreaking, especially when the starting price is $89,900. Meanwhile, the top-spec version, with two big rear displays and a whopping three exterior colors to choose from instead of just black, is priced from $102,900. That’s a pretty penny in a segment where the Tesla Model S and Lucid Air are already struggling to find buyers.
SHM seems to be hedging its bets on high-end technology, with the sedan fitted with a comprehensive 40-sensor suite that includes 18 cameras, a lidar, nine radars and 12 ultrasonic sensors, enabling Level 3 automated driving sometime in the future. There’s also an integrated PlayStation 5, and all of these features are expected to be included in the production version of the Afeela SUV.
