Son rise at RWITC: Debutant trainer Aman wants to go places

MUMBAI: The debut of this aspiring horse trainer was initially scheduled for around 2026. However, fate intervened, and he found himself taking charge earlier than expected.

Aman Hussain, a 24-year-old trainee, had to step into the role abruptly due to the untimely demise of his father, Altaf Hussain. The senior Hussain had been a highly successful trainer for over three decades at the Royal Western India Turf Club. He passed away a fortnight ago, prompting Aman to make his debut earlier than planned. On Sunday, he took the reins, overseeing his filly Queens Pride.

"I have been learning the tricks of the trade with my father for over three years and had taken an assistant trainer's license last year," informed Hussain who has an MBA in marketing.

"I thank RWITC for providing me with license to train and I am genuinely grateful to the owners Cyrus Poonawalla, Munchi Shroff, Surendra Sanas, Ashok Ranpise and others for showing faith in me," said Hussain who got to retain the entire string of 26 horses which were trained by his late father. "I am lucky to have full support also from all the trainers here."

Hussain aims to travel with his horses across the country if he succeeds in making a name for himself. "I like the way Pesi Shroff and Suleiman Attaollahi travel with their horses exploring the various tracks in the country," he says. Hussain feels the absence of his father, especially during morning workouts.

"He would regularly impart his insights during training sessions. Despite having the same horses and the familiar staff, his absence is deeply felt," expressed Hussain. He emphasized his commitment to sincerity and honesty in training, values instilled by his father.
