Son Heung-min issues warning to Tottenham team-mates after poor run of Premier League form

Son Heung-min has told his Tottenham Hotspur colleagues that there can be no excuses for the side's poor run of form in the Premier League.

Spurs have been beaten in four of their last six matches in the top-flight as they look to rekindle some of their early season form in today's clash with West Ham United.

Jose Mourinho's side have slipped down to ninth-place as a result of their bad run, but still have an outside chance of reaching the Champions League if they can improve.

But Son, who has only scored two Premier League goals since the turn of the year, has told his Spurs team-mates that there are no excuses for their recent form despite this unusual season.

Jose Mourinho on what Spurs should expect this season

The South Korea international said, via the Mirror: “It doesn’t feel the same as previous seasons, especially without fans.

“This is massive as a footballer, as it is in normal life. It has been one year already like this and I just don’t know how time flies. But it can’t be an excuse.

“It has been a strange season but we have to do better and we know we can do better.

“When you lose some points and even when you play well and lose a point it always feels so, so sad.

“We have had a couple of bad results but we just need to focus on the coming games. It’s all about our responsibility because we have to carry on positively.

“We had a good time at the start of the season until maybe a few weeks ago.

“But now a bad time has come and we have to stick together as a team and go the tough way, through the tough tunnel. As a team, we can do that and we have the belief to do that and bring some positive energy.”

Mourinho has faced plenty of criticism with his Spurs side in bad form, but Son has jumped to the defence of his manager.

He said: “When we win the games there was not any criticism.

“When we have a couple of bad results, obviously the conversation came out, the main issue came out, about our way of playing.

“We know what we’re doing, we want to win, but obviously it’s all about results.

“We are working hard because we want to do better and we know we can do it.

“The players are really hungry with every single game and training sessions, you can see they want to do more, they want to take responsibility for their games and our games.

“This is very important at such a tough time.”
