A woman suffered a serious injury which required surgery after her son attacked her during an argument at his flat in Uddingston.
Dean Baird banged Julie Ann Wood’s head off a radiator and the resulting 10-inch wound needed 34 stitches.
Baird, 27, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Friday and admitted assaulting his mum to her severe injury and permanent disfigurement at the flat in Deanbrae Street last November.
Scott King, prosecuting, said the victim lives in England and was visiting her son and his partner.
An argument began about where a four-year-old boy should be sleeping and this led to Baird punching his mum twice on the head and once on the body.
Mr King told the court: “The accused then took hold of her head and forcibly banged it off a radiator, causing a significant injury.
“Realising the pain she was in and seeing how much blood there was, he helped her to her feet.
“She was in a state of shock and panic, and the four-year-old was standing in the hallway, crying.
“Ms Wood went to the door of a neighbour who saw the distressed state she was in.
“The neighbour asked the accused what had happened and he said his mum had fallen.
“Ms Wood was taken to Wishaw General Hospital. She had a 10-inch cut to her forehead. This required 34 stitches which were inserted under general anaesthetic.
“The wound will leave a significant, permanent scar.”
Defence agent Jackson Bateman said Baird has no previous convictions for assault and accepted he should have “walked away” from the argument with his mum.
Mr Bateman added: “He rendered assistance immediately he realised what had happened.
“His mum is still supportive of him and I understand her injury has healed in a relatively positive manner. My client has kept himself out of trouble since he was released from custody after an initial court appearance in November.”
Sheriff Thomas Millar deferred sentence on Baird, now of High Patrick Street, Hamilton, until September 20 for background reports.
