Solange named as Harvard University's Foundation Artist of the Year

Solange has been announced as Harvard University’s Foundation Artist of the Year 2018.

The annual honouree is picked by students and faculty members of the Harvard Foundation for Intercultural and Race Relations at Harvard University.

According to its website, the foundation aims to “improve relations among racial and ethnic groups within the University and to enhance the quality of our common life.”

Past honourees include Queen Latifah, Shakira, Viola Davis, Salma Hayek, John Legend and Jackie Chan. 

Solange will accept the award at a ceremony on 3 March during Harvard’s annual Cultural Rhythms festival, which will feature “student performances and ethno-cultural cuisine from over 30 student organisations.”

Solange recently appeared in a Helmut Lang photo project alongside Kanye West and also starred in a Calvin Klein campaign alongside Kelela, Blood Orange, Caroline Polachek and other artists.

In December she showed off her skills as a director with the release of SZA's video for "The Weekend", and was just announced as a headliner for this year's Latitude Festival.

Her most recent album A Seat at the Table was released in 2016 and was named as one of The Independent’s albums of the year.
