Sofia Vergara can't understand why women have a problem with being objectified

Sofia Vergara has taken a surprising stance in the conversation about objectification.

The Modern Family actress and highest paid woman on US television claims she doesn’t understand why women have an issue with being objectified.

Vergara appeared in a controversial sketch during the 2014 Emmys with Academy CEO Bruce Rosenbloom, who invited her to stand on a revolving platform in a tight fitting dress as he spoke about the academy’s achievements and diversification.

Organisers were quickly accused of objectification, but Vergara insisted the experience left her feeling “absolutely the opposite” of objectified at the time.

Speaking to Net a Porter for the February edition of The Edit, she said: “I’ve never understood why women get so offended [by being objectified]. I just don’t believe in all that drama, which is why I’ve made a whole joke out of it. I am secure enough not to take it all that seriously, and I like to laugh at myself. My husband was a male stripper in Magic Mike XXL – do you think he was offended by [the objectification]? I thought it was hilarious.”

She also talked about her struggle with accepting ageing, claiming watching herself on screens over seven years has proved to be an excruciating experience.

“It just makes me want to kill myself, but what can I do? I’ll be sad when the wolf-whistles stop.”
