What’s Going To Happen
Samford has the talent and upside to be a bit of a factor in the SoCon, but it’s 1-2 after strong performance in a loss to Furman in overtime (okay) and opening up with a loss to East Tennessee State (NOT okay). The offense has been fine, but the run defense hasn’t been anything special and the five turnovers – three against Furman – all seemed to hurt.
Speaking of disappointment, Wofford is right there with Furman as one of the stars of the SoCon, but a 24-13 loss to Chattanooga last week hurt. The offense stalled, the two turnovers hurt, and the team couldn’t control the clock like it needs to.
This is when the Wofford O line takes over.
Furman was able to rumble on the Bulldogs for 248 yards and kept the ball for close to 37 minutes, Wofford might be struggling a bit so far, but it’ll get the O going with the ground attack finally doing what it’s supposed to.

What’s Going To Happen
Here’s where The Citadel finally gets going.
It’s been a rough run so far with a disappointing loss to Mercer when the defense broke down early and the three turnovers were a killer, and last week an overtime loss to Chattanooga made this a must win.
Western Carolina, though, has bigger issues with an offense that can’t keep the chains moving and with a turnover problem in blowout after blowout, losing its first three games by a combined score of 120-41.
Citadel runs the ball, Western Carolina can’t stop the run, and the two parts are going to make for an ugly game. Expect the Bulldogs to have the ball for over 35 minutes with close to 300 rushing yards.

What’s Going To Happen
The Furman team that’s supposed to win the SoCon – or at least be No. 2 in the mix – hasn’t been up to expectations with a loss to VMI and an overtime fight over Samford. Now we get to see just how good the Paladins really are.
East Tennessee State got by Samford 24-17 in the opener, but the date with Wofford was postponed. It’s a rested team that came through with ten fourth quarter points to get by the Bulldogs, the run defense was great, and the D locked down allowing just three point over the last three quarters.
What’s Furman’s issue? Inconsistency.
It had to scramble back. to beat Samford, and the O just couldn’t score in the 14-13 loss to VMI, but the team is able to control the clock and the tempo, and the combination of QB Hamp Sisson and RB Devin Wynn should balance things out against a good ETSU defense that will struggle just enough on third downs to drop this.

What’s Going To Happen
All of a sudden, VMI is a factor.
The Keydets stunned Furman to start the season and then got through the SoCon free space, getting 587 yards out of Reece Udinski leading one of the nation’s better passing attacks. On the flip side, the Mercer passing game is working, but the run defense has been ripped up over the first two games.
VMI can run, but it chooses to travel by air, but the real standout has been a defense that’s allowed just 20 points in the first two games helped by a killer pass rush that’s been living in backfields.
Mercer got whacked by Wofford and then stunned Citadel with a 28-0 first half to coast on to a 42-28 win – three takeaways helped. It was the opposite of the Wofford game, getting down 17-0 at halftime and 31-7 thanks to three turnovers.
This is a solid Mercer team that’s about to get hit with a strong passing game for the first time. VMI will control the clock, Udinski will dink and dunk all game long and the D – especially against the run- will take care of the rest.
