Social media reacts as Kenny Egan opens up on battle with alcoholism in TG4 documentary

TV viewers enjoyed tonight's Finné documentary as Irish boxing hero Kenneth Egan starred in the latest episode.

The Olympic hero was front and centre in the TG4 show which explored the realities of his 2008 Olympic silver medal success as he became a national hero.

In the revealing documentary, Egan looked back on his recovery from severe alcoholism as he celebrates over ten years of sobriety.

And fans were quick to applaud Egan after its airing.

One fan said:" Kenneth Egan was a brilliant boxer and always comes across as a likable and decent lad. Well done TG4".

"Fine documentary. Kenneth Egan was a brilliant boxer and always comes across as a likable and decent lad," another added.

"Egan showed great determination from a young age to bounce back from early defeats and then missing out on 2004 Olympics-overcame drink problem with great support after getting his silver medal".

Egan became a near-overnight household name as he struggled to deal with the pressures and challenges that come with being a national hero.

The Clondalkin man found himself spiralling out of control with binge drinking almost taking over his day-to-day life.

But he began attending AA meetings and is now over ten years sober as he opens up in the documentary.
