Social media mocks police e-fit by comparing it to 'a leprechaun'

A police e-fit has been mocked on social media for 'looking more like one of Snow White's dwarfs', 'a leprechaun' and even 'Prince Harry'. The mock-up shows a man in a black baseball cap, sporting a shiny ginger beard.

Northamptonshire Police issued the image as part of an appeal into a robbery which took place in Corby on July 15. Facebook users were quick to ridicule the e-fit after the force launched the appeal to find the mugger who targeted two teenagers and robbed them of their phones.

Some web users users said looks like it was 'drawn on by a child'. Another commented: "So northants police still haven't invested in a proper e-fit system - instead looks like Prince Harry is on the run."

Another added: "Lol, is that a leprechaun? Better start checking all the caves and trees around the area."

And another wrote: "I think Snow White can help out, wish you would get a professional e fit program instead of secretly using your 5 year old child’s. It is entertaining though and more people take notice because of the comments so maybe that’s the plan."

In a similar vein, another said: "Please stop issuing images drawn by a child. While they are undoubtedly hilarious, they always detract from an often serious crime."

Another added: "Looks more like an emoji, or is it karl pilkington?", while another person said: "Looks like he's been tangoed."

Northamptonshire Police said they were releasing the image as part of a reappeal for information following the robbery three months ago. A force spokesperson said: "Police officers investigating a robbery in the wooded area between Jubilee Avenue and Westcott Way in Corby, have issued an e-fit of a male they would like to speak to.

"The incident happened between 12.30pm and 2pm on Friday, July 15, when two teenage friends were approached as they sat on a bench in the woods. Although no knife was seen, the man threatened to use one unless they handed over their phones, which they did.

"The offender was a white man and in his 20s, 5ft 6in and of a slightly large build. He had a ginger beard, freckles, and a black mark below his right eye.

"He was wearing a full black tracksuit with some red on it and matching black and red baseball cap and black shoes. Officers would like to hear from anyone who may recognise the man in the e-fit. Anyone with information is asked to call Northamptonshire Police on 101 or alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
