Social enterprise which is helping unemployed return to work recognised in national index

A north west organisation has been named as one of the UK’s top 100 social enterprises for its work delivering social impact across the community.

Crewe-based Pathways was named as one of the businesses on the NatWest SE100 Index, the annual list of the UK’s leading 100 social enterprises, compiled by Pioneers Post in partnership with NatWest Social and Community Capital.

The list recognises the valuable work carried out by social enterprises across the UK.

Established in 2006, Pathways CIC provides specialist support to individuals, health and social care professionals, communities and businesses through a range of tailored programmes and services.

This includes supporting the long term unemployed in their return to work as well as well as supporting those who may be on sick leave from falling into long term unemployment.

Much of this activity includes tackling health inequality by promoting positive health and inclusion as well as positive families.

Pathways managing director Yvonne Clarke MBE, said: “Part of our success as a business is down to the partnership we have formed with our NatWest Relationship Manager Barrie Morgan who we have been working with since we started the business. Barrie has helped us set up for success. When we approached the bank we didn’t need start-up money but rather support in developing a sound business plan and pushing forward with the start-up process.”

Barrie Morgan, Relationship Manager at NatWest, said: “I was thrilled to see that Pathways CIC was included on the latest NatWest SE100 Index.

"The work carried out by Yvonne and the team is extremely important to the local community and it’s been a pleasure to work with Yvonne and support the business over the years.”

Now in its 10th year, the NatWest SE100 celebrates the growth, impact and resilience of social ventures in the UK by naming the most impressive 100 social enterprises of the year in the Index from those that apply.

More than 300 applicants applied for inclusion on this year’s list.
