Social club that ran for over 40 years set to become care home

A Mansfield social club that had been running for 40 years is set to be converted into a 24-bedroom care home.

The former Boothy's Club is situated on the edge of Mansfield town centre in a mixed residential and commercial area.

The building, in West Hill Drive, Mansfield, is now said to be vacant and in a state of disrepair. A pre-application reference was submitted in 2018.

A decision was made to approve the development by Mansfield District Council on Thursday, December 16.

Plans have been outlined for a supported living facility for the elderly with 24 en-suite bedrooms arranged in six-bedroom clusters.

This will include shared kitchen and living rooms as well as a reception at the main entrance to the site and a car park.

A design and access statement from Mansfield District Council read: "This statement is submitted in support of the Application, to provide for the conversion of the former Social Club to a 24 en-suite bedroom care home / supported living facility for the elderly.

"The revised layout will ensure the best use of the currently vacant building, thereby ensuring that the facilities meet current market trends for care home / supported living facility for the elderly.

"The proposals would therefore accord with national and local planning policy and assist the Council in meeting the need for this type of accommodation in their area.

"The Council’s emerging Local Plan has identified a need for 400 bed spaces of elderly accommodation.

"The change of use of the social club to form a supported living facility would therefore go some way to meeting this identified need."

Part of the building surrounding the former Boothy's Club is to be demolished to create a green space for residents.
