Sobbing abandoned boy tells border officer he fears being kidnapped

Heartbreaking video shows a sobbing young boy telling a US Border Patrol officer that he had been abandoned - and was scared of being kidnapped.

The little boy, whose age has not been released, was seen approaching the officer and begging for help.

In the clip, which was shared on Facebook, he said: "Somebody could abduct me, kidnap me. I am scared."

The video shows him telling the officer: "I was coming with a group and they abandoned me and I do not know where they are at."

It was filmed in Texas, where the boy was not accompanied by any of the adults he had set off with.

He said his parents had not been part of the group he was travelling to the US with.

It is not known how far he had traveled, or what his nationality is.

The officer asked him: "You do not know where they are at? They left you alone?"

The youngster, clearly in a state of distress, said: "At the end they abandoned me. I have come here to ask you for help."

Latest figures reveal that 171,000 people were stopped at the border last month, including 19,000 unaccompanied children.

It is the highest number of people stopped at the border in a month for more than 20 years.

Vice President Kamala Harris has been tasked with finding a solution to the huge humanitarian crisis facing the Joe Biden administration.
