Snow to hit Scotland this week as winter arrives says Met Office

Scots can expect snow this week as a cold snap cloaks the country.

Forecasters say a wintry weather front pushing south eastwards from Tuesday night will likely bring flurries with it.

Hilly areas over 1,000ft are most likely to see some of the white stuff - but lowlands might also get a coating.

Met Office forecaster Marco Petagna said: "Once we get into Wednesday afternoon it'll be much colder with showers turning wintery.

"It'll feel pretty cold for the rest of the week and into the weekend with an increasing risk of wintry showers in the hills but also low lying areas.

"There may be some snow accumulating in the hills but also a risk of it settling in the lowlands."

Shivering Scots were waking up to chilly weather this weekend as a "polar blast" slammed into the country.

Forecasters predicted the mercury plunging as low as -2C ahead of a cold week.

Temperatures today are expected to feel a bit milder.

But it looks set to be a brief respite as snow could hit parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland next week.

Much of the UK will see highs as low as 4C or 5C at the start of December.

Weather maps show snowfall could start around December 3 and last for a week.
