Snow forecast for Yorkshire this week as winter looks set to hit the region

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning this week for large parts of Yorkshire - including Leeds - with the threat of snow a real possibility.

Although the first weather warning of the week means parts of Yorkshire are preparing for torrential downpours until midday on Tuesday, it's actually the second weather warning which could be more serious for us here in Leeds.

A yellow weather warning for rain covers large swathes of the country throughout the entire day on Thursday, with yet more torrential downpours forecast.

However, the weather experts have also said that some parts of the country could even see snow on high ground.

Leeds is likely to escape the worst of it, but the likes of Ilkley Moor, Whernside and big areas of the Yorkshire Dales could be covered in a light blanket of snow.

Leeds Bradford Airport may even see a brief flurry of snowfall if it really becomes bleak.

"Periods of rain and hill snow may bring some disruption to transport," says a message on the Met Office website.

Floods could hit the region again, with some parts of the county told to be prepared.
