Snow day crappie: Making use of a day off turned into a big crappie

Abby Turek with a big crappie caught on a snow day Monday. | Provided

Abby Turek knew what to do with a snow day.

“Had the day off of school, so went to a DuPage Forest Preserve and caught a nice crappie!” she tweeted. “Sorted through small ones and found this one hanging out right off the bottom in 12 feet of water.”

Such a thick crappie, look at how big its mouth is.

And I just love that a snow day turned into an ice-fishing day for Turek.

That’s getting it done and worth a full-length view.

FOTW, the celebration of big fish and their stories (the stories matter, as this one shows) around Chicago fishing, runs Wednesdays in the paper Sun-Times. The online posting here at https://chicago.suntimes.com/outdoors goes up at varied days of the week, depending on what is going on the wide world of the outdoors.
