A yellow weather warning has been in put place for Greater Glasgow with heavy snow set to fall in the area later this week.

The latest Met Office warning comes into force at midnight on Thursday morning and will remain in place until 6am on Friday.

The area covered includes towns to the north and east of Glasgow city, including Cumbernauld and Coatbridge.

As it stands, Met Office forecasters are not predicting snow will fall on Glasgow itself.

Upon issuing the warning, the Met Office advise of possible travel disruption and say:

"Heavy snowfall may occur across the hills in this region and bring significant disruption to travel."
