SNK understood the assignment—Chun-Li’s Fatal Fury debut has fans losing It

Chun-Li’s model for her upcoming DLC in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves (CotW) has caused a massive stir, generating huge interest ahead of her release on Nov. 5. Not only is she arguably the thiccest she’s ever been, but SNK has done a phenomenal job on her design and moveset.

Trailer and reveal

Chun-Li, the latest Street Fighter crossover character coming to Fatal Fury: CotW, finally made her grand reveal during the SNK World Championship 2025 in an unforgettable trailer. Who else for her face-off against than another fan-favorite, Mai Shiranui?

Surprisingly, despite their shared reputation as legendary female fighting game characters, the duo were never in the same game—until 2025. First with Mai added as a Street Fighter 6 DLC, and now with Chun-Li as a Fatal Fury DLC.

When it came to the trailer, it seems SNK understood the assignment. As Chun-Li and Mai prepare to face off, they recreated Akiman‘s iconic SNK vs. Capcom promo art of the duo in-game for the trailer, much to the delight of the FGC.

On top of the Chun-Li reveal trailer, SNK also posted a 40-second animated trailer of Chun-Li and Mai Shiranui, with Mai starting out dressed as Chun-Li before revealing herself in a blaze of glory. It’s fair to say Capcom and SNK are fully aware of how big a deal this character crossover is for fans of the two series.

Design evolution

“We’ve put a lot of focus on making her [Chun-Li’s] legs—one of her many charms—look even more beautiful and powerful in the world of Fatal Fury,” SNK said on social media.

In early Street Fighter titles, Chun-Li was athletic and lean. Yet, starting in the late 1990s with the Alpha series and Third Strike, Chun-Li’s physique shifted to be more muscular and defined.

At that time, she also became associated with the phrase “thick thighs save lives,” but her “thicc era” would truly begin in Street Fighter IV. Chun-Li’s design evolution mirrored the shift in gaming to celebrate strong female bodies over purely sexualized ones.

When does Chun-Li release in Fatal Fury: CotW?

Chun-Li will release as part of the Season Pass 1 DLC on Nov. 5, 2025.

Chun-Li Fatal Fury gameplay

Based on the initial trailer, we can see Chun-Li’s signature Lightning Kick, Spinning Bird Kick, and Kikoken projectile all make an appearance. In Fatal Fury: CotW, Chun-Li also has variations of her Lightning Kick that can be performed mid-air.

Chun-Li’s classic Super/Ultra move Kikosho looks great, as do her Tensho Kicks, perhaps even more so than in Street Fighter 6. Overall, SNK definitely delivered on this DLC, and it will almost certainly drive new players to City of Wolves.

In terms of outfit, SNK opted for SF2 and SF6, giving a nice contrast between legacy and modern Chun-Li.

SNK was kind enough to share a Chun-Li vs. Mai developer match post-announcement. If you want to get a better idea of her gameplay, there are also plenty of other clips on social media from playtesters.

Crossover characters can often be hit or miss, but it’s definitely a home run on this occasion.
