Snapchat warning over man 'grooming' school children on Merseyside

A school has sent a warning to parents after reports of a man "grooming" children over Snapchat.

The safeguarding alert was sent to parents and carers from the Range High School in Formby after concerns were raised about a man messaging a large number of pupils on the social media platform Snapchat. The ECHO understands Sefton Council has forwarded the alert to parents with children at other schools in the Sefton area.

The alert, seen by the ECHO, reads: "There is an adult male that has made contact with a large number of our pupils across the school, but particularly in Year 8 over Snapchat.

"Looking at the messages, he has been grooming the pupils and over the last 24 hours has sent a small number of pupils sexually explicit photographs.

"We have sent a notification to parents to make them aware of this threat. The police have already been informed by a parent but the young people at school tell me that friends they have in other schools also know this man."

Range High School told the ECHO the matter is now being investigated by Merseyside Police.

A spokesperson for Sefton Council said: "We regularly send messages to our school community to make parents, children and staff aware of any reports we have received to ensure our school community are informed and kept safe."
