Slimming World is suspending all its group meetings in the fight against coronavirus

Slimming World has announced that it is suspending all its group meetings after the government brought in new social distancing measures.

It comes following the government's announcement yesterday of a string of tough new measures to try to halt the spread of coronavirus.

This includes stopping non-essential contact and avoiding gatherings in small public places.

Members usually attend weekly meetings to be weighed and receive group support.

The company also runs an online service.

The weight loss organisation says it knows the news will be disappointing, but its priority is to protect members.

A Slimming World spokesperson said: “Following yesterday’s announcement by the Prime Minister and in line with government guidance, we’ve taken the difficult decision to ask our Consultants to temporarily suspend their groups.

“While we know that members and Consultants will be hugely disappointed by this and miss the sense of community and powerful Slimming World group spirit, protecting members will always be our priority.

"We’re putting plans in place to support our Consultants in this unprecedented situation, so that they can continue to support members to protect the weight losses that they have already achieved, continue in their weight loss journeys and stay as healthy as possible throughout this difficult time.”
