Sligo Rovers keeping tabs on Bohemians ace Liam Burt

Sligo Rovers are keen to snare Liam Burt from Bohemians ahead of next season.

The Scottish winger is out of contract with the Gypsies and looks certain to be moving on from Dalymount Park.

Champions Shamrock Rovers have also been linked with the tricky former Celtic and Rangers ace.

And Burt, 23, is also expected to have offers from English and Scottish clubs ahead of that transfer window opening in January.

Burt joined Bohemians ahead of the 2021 season and quickly became a crowd favourite with his displays here and in Europe.

But he has been out of the side of late, with caretaker boss Derek Pender dropping him and compatriot Ali Coote for the recent derby defeat at St Pat’s.

Speculation raged as to whether they were bombed out but Coote was restored to the squad by new boss Declan Devine for last week’s draw with Finn Harps.

He was an unused sub but Burt didn’t make the cut at all although, in the build-up to that game, Devine had cited groin issues.

Burt played 70 minutes for the Gypsies’ Under-19s in between the St Pat’s and Finn Harps games.

But it is unclear if he will have any role to play away to Dundalk tomorrow or in the final game of the season which just happens to be against Sligo Rovers.

Bit O’Red boss John Russell is looking to strengthen his squad for 2023 after seeing this season’s Premier Division campaign fizzle out.

Burt would be an impressive signing for the Showgrounds outfit but Sligo Rovers are set to have a fight on their hands.
