Slaven Bilic claims 'football is not the priority' amid coronavirus crisis

Slaven Bilic says no-one should even be talking about playing football while people are dying from the coronavirus.

West Brom boss Bilic is in pole position to lead his team to promotion into the Premier League but says football must be on hold until the virus is under control.

Bilic told BeIN Sports: ”Football is definitely not a priority - not in England, Turkey, Russia, Brazil or anywhere in the world.

"But of course people are talking about football. I don't think it will continue very soon if we're talking weeks because the priority has to be the virus and people's lives.

"The life of the players, the life of the sect guys, the fans are the most important ones. We shouldn't even talk about football.

But Bilic insists that the return of football can give hope in the long term and says screening games behind closed doors can actually help people to stay at home.

He added: ”On the other hand, football brings joy to the people and so as soon as the situation improves in the world, country by country, they will activate football again as quickly as possible.

"it's very important, if you want to keep people at home then it's easier to keep them at home if they have two games on television.

"There's no space or time to talk about football, as soon as the situation improves, the country will start to play football.”
