Tonight's spooky offering
Presuming that you’re not currently in the process of daubing your face with panstick and fake blood, you’ll probably be looking for something suitably chilling to hunker down in front of this evening. And have I got a list for you.
Witchfinder General (BBC2, 12.05am)
Vincent Price breezes around the bleaker bits of the British countryside overseeing feats of horrible torture. (“Gratuitous sadism,” said the Guardian at the time, even though the film had been extensively cut). Add magic mushrooms and you could be watching A Field In England.
Paranormal Activity (ITV, 11.10pm)
Not-bad noughties Blair Witch-meets-Poltergeist thing, diminished somewhat in the memory because they seem to release a sequel ever three weeks or so. Brings the jumps, though.
Poltergeist (C5, 11.55pm)
A classic of ‘80s horror. Thank god you can’t detune a TV that way any more.
Goth At The BBC (BBC4, 10pm)
Not a horror film, but may look like it occasionally. From Siouxsie and The Cure to Depeche Mode and PJ Harvey, the broad spectrum of musicians who’ll say “We’re not goths, actually.”
Freddy Vs Jason (Sky1, 10pm)
Idiotic cash-in that foresakes creepiness for endless stupid battles. Still somehow took 15 years to make. Fun fact though - it marks Kelly Rowland’s acting debut.
Casper (ITV2, 7pm)
Not seen it, but it’s about a little boy who is also a ghost, so is probably heartbreakingly tragic.
That’s all from me. Have an agreeably spooky evening. Erm... whooo!
Check out the Guide's Hallowe'en surprise
No, it’s not razorblades scattered amongst the clubs previews – but an interview with Fabio Frizzi, in which the Italian horror maestro passes comment on some of the more memorable scores of modern cinema.
There’s an excellent mix from soundtrack reissue label Death Waltz too, which we’ll leave here in case you’re too lazy to trundle over there.
This week's #reviewanything is live…
… featuring Gazza, “dark tourism” and Pat Sharp. What a combination.

And stay tuned to the Ghoul Daily - yes, I’m going to keep calling it that – as we’ve got a couple of Hallowe’en surprises due for later.

Here's a trailer for series two of Toast
Much joy within its 40 seconds. Enough for me to summarise it by bullet point, I think.
- Humiliating audition/Clem Fandango
- “No! No no no!”
- “What kind of asshole doesn’t like my adverts?!”
- [dressed as wizard] “Poaching?”
- Toast’s pronunciation of “squirrel”
Chris Moyles has issued a rebuttal to the Guardian
Specifically, this piece by Peter Robinson on the former Radio 1 DJ’s new YouTube career. The rebuttal features the voice of Keith Chegwin.
There have been two music-video beheadings on the blog so far today, but I suspect this is the first thing that I’ve posted that you’ll really watch through your fingertips.
It's just gone 11.30am
So it must be time for the second music-video decapitation of the day.
Here’s the new video for Ready Err Not from Flying Lotus’ still-fresh long-player You’re Dead – a nightmarish dreamscape that may appeal if you have a liking for Hieronymus Bosch, the Chapman Brothers, or creepy freak babies crawling around in the darkness. Again, NSFW - four letters that I suspect are going to become something of a theme today.
They'll be back…
… although maybe you’ll wish they weren’t. Here’s the first images from the forthcoming Terminator reboot, Terminator: Genisys.
Here you will see Matt Smith (you know, Doctor Who) and Emilia Clarke (you know, Daenerys Targaryen in Game Of Thrones) and a rather friendly-looking – smiling, you might even note – Terminator exoskeleton.
OK, this is for the cover of Entertainment Weekly, so they probably weren’t going to go for a horrific nuclear dreamscape where someone gets their skin blown off while holding onto a chainlink fence. But current lack of any Arnie-ish presence and the rather friendly, glossy tone has so far received a muted reaction from fans, and there appears to be more good reasons to look a little cynical. First up, there’s the name Genisys – sounds like an old video games console, looks like a typo. And then there’s some leaked plot details, which of course go deep into spoilery areas, but are summarised nicely here at HitFix.

Morning all
And welcome to a special spooky Guide Daily. News on #revieweverything soon, but first I present you with the gory new Dizzee Rascal video, which isn’t lying when it says it contains scenes of “graphic violence”.
Due to all sorts of dark arts reasons I can only show you the trailer, but go see the full thing over at Noisey where it’s being premiered. My favourite bit is the bit with the ghost.
