Sky TV series The Lazarus Project closes Bristol pub for filming

The second series of The Lazarus Project, staring Pappa Essiedu, is currently being filmed inside The Greenbank pub in Easton. The Newport based TV Production Company, Urban Myth Films has been there since 12pm today (Wednesday) and had coned off various parking bays near the filming location yesterday (Tuesday), in preparation for the filming.

A number of cars and vans have been parked up along Belle Vue Road and neighbouring streets. Residents have been asked to move their parked cars from the roads directly surrounding the filming location and a section of the pavement is currently closed to the public.

A ‘STOP’ and ‘GO’ traffic management system has been put in place on the road around the site. There was also a small blackout tent spotted on Belle Vue Road, outside the Greenbank pub, earlier on Wednesday afternoon.

The Lazarus Project is a Sky TV series which follows the story of George (Pappa Essiedu) as he begins to re-live time after witnessing the end of the world. The action drama time loop series from screenwriter Joe Barton has come to Bristol for filming of its second series, but the production team are sworn to secrecy as to what that will entail.

Pappa Essiedu is best known for his role as Kwame in the critically acclaimed BBC TV series May I Destroy You, directed by Michaela Cole. Other cast members include Anjli Mohindra, Rudi Dharmalingam, Charly Clive and Caroline Quentin.

Urban Myth Studios said in a letter to local residents: “We are planning to film from 12.00pm to 22.00pm in The Greenbank Pub on Belle Vue Lane and Greenbank Road on Wednesday, 5 October 2022 and in preparation of this day, various parking bays will need to be coned off and secured in advance on Tuesday 4th October 2022. During filming on Wednesday 5 October, some equipment vehicles will be parked on the suspended bays on Greenbank Road near our location.

“Due to the number of filming vehicles and equipment required for the filming, the production are in communication with Bristol Council and suggesting that stop & go traffic management near The Greenbank is required. We hope to have a small blackout tent and lights outside the windows on Belle View Road.

“The ‘STOP’ and ‘GO’ system will improve safety on and off the road around the filming location for members of the public and the crew. All crew will be adhering to film specific COVID 19 regulations which the government has put in place for the film industry to enable it to continue filming during lockdown.

Residents and visitors have been told to move their vehicles to make way for the filming vehicles. (Yvonne Deeney)

“We are also working closely with the Bristol City Council, Film Office as well as the City’s Highways department during the production of the TV series and have their full support. We endeavour to keep any inconvenience to an absolute minimum and thank you in advance for your cooperation and kind assistance.”
