Skinny dipping event to return to beauty spot near Bristol

An event which sees naturists skinny dipping at a popular beauty spot near Bristol is returning this summer.

The Great British Skinny Dip took place at Warleigh Weir for the first time last year and was attended by 14 nudists.

Organiser Robert Waterson is hoping to see a bigger turnout at this year's event, which will take place at the same scenic site on the outskirts of Bath on Saturday, July 13.

The masseur is offering back, neck and shoulder massages for £5 a go alongside the starkers swim in the River Avon, which will raise money for the National Autistic Society and mental health charity MIND.

There will also be two buckets raising money for the charities which people can donate to on the day.

Rob, who is also an engineer, said: "Naturism has always had negative connotations but we are just a group of ordinary people who like getting naked every now and then.

"Naked skinny dipping is great for a number of reasons. It feels nice, it's extremely liberating and you don't have to worry about horrid wet clothing sticking to you.

"It's a celebration of diversity and the human form in all its many shapes and sizes. It's the 21st century so nudity really shouldn't be a problem.

"Not only that but it's good to let your skin breathe. It is the biggest human organ after all."

Rob added he has found a section of the river which is "perfect for taking a swim" in a fairly secluded area.
