Skate: How to Perform an Inward Heelflip

If you haven’t already read our review of the newly-released skate., there is plenty of criticism we’ve had for the latest entry into the iconic Skate series. However, one thing is for sure — the gameplay still slaps! The flick-it control system is as satisfying as ever, and the fluid gameplay allows for some truly insane lines that players can attempt to hit. That said, even seasoned veterans can struggle with hitting some tricks from time to time, especially if the input requires some odd motions that don’t come naturally.

The inward heelflip is one of those tricks that requires some wrestling with the right stick to hit consistently. And rightfully so. In real life, an inward heelflip is essentially a combo of a frontside shuvit and a traditional heelflip, which should result in your board doing a frontside 180-degree rotation. Think of it as an inverted hardflip.

All of it is really technical, so I’ll spare you the additional details. Here’s how to perform the trick in skate.

How To Perform An Inward Heelflip In Skate

Because an inward heelflip is one of the more advanced flip tricks one can perform in real life, it only makes sense that the input to pull it off in skate. is equally as advanced. To do an inward heelflip, do the following steps. For simplicity’s sake, this is how to do it when using a Regular stance. For the Goofy input, it’s reversed:

  • Go down-right on the right stick. The input should begin only a few degrees removed from dead center.
  • Quickly roll dead center down on the right stick, then flick it to just right of dead center at the top.
  • If you’ve done it correctly, the input should look like it does in the screenshot above

Now, pulling off an inward heelflip whenever you choose to do so will take a bit of practice. Don’t be discouraged if you find yourself accidentally triggering a 360 inward heelflip or a regular heelflip by accident the first few times you try it. After a few minutes of practice, you’ll have the motion down and will be able to pull it off without even needing to think about it.

This is how to do an inward heelflip in skate. If you’re looking for more tips on how to use the flick-it system, check out our detailed guide on it. Or, if you’re more of a vert person, check out our guide on grab tricks.
