Sixers defend WBBL title, cruising to victory in final against Scorchers

The Sydney Sixers have defended their WBBL title, beating the Perth Scorchers by nine wickets with five overs to spare in a replay of last season's final.

Set just 100 runs for victory, Sixers openers Alyssa Healy (41 off 32 balls) and Elyse Perry (36 not out off 42) made easy work of the run chase at Adelaide Oval.

Ashleigh Gardner chimed in with 22 off 16 balls after an adventurous Healy was stumped off the bowling of Emma King.

The victory was a repeat of last season's decider, making the Sixers the most successful team in the competition's short history.

The Scorchers were bundled out with a ball remaining in their innings, having failed to crack triple figures as the Sixers bowlers imposed themselves on the match.

Sarah Coyte led the charge with the ball for the Sixers, taking 3-17 including the prized wicket of Scorchers opener Elyse Villani.

Piepa Cleary struck two of only five boundaries hit by Perth, as she top scored for her side with an unbeaten 18.

More to come.
