Six-week-long search for missing mum, 39, ends in tragedy after body found in river

A search for a mum who hasn't been seen for 43 days has come to a tragic end after police found a body in a river.

Helen Mills, 39, was last seen by her family on the morning of March 2.

West Yorkshire Police became increasingly concerned for her welfare after she was not located for a week.

A member of the public found a body in the River Aire near Selby on Wednesday - six weeks after Helen was reported missing, YorkshireLive reports.

While formal identification is yet to take place, Helen's family have been informed and the Coroner’s Office has been notified.

Helen leaves behind a young family and niece.

Her daughter Chantelle had previously made a heartbreaking plea in the search for her mum.

She previously said: "My mum is still missing.

"It was three weeks yesterday she went missing. I last saw her on Wednesday March 2 In the morning. I’m not sure exactly what time she was at my house when I woke up.

"She was last seen by my youngest brother at around 4pm on the same day at the family home. My family and I are appealing again for any information regarding my mum and her whereabouts.

"Honestly every possible person we could think she may have been around, we have been in touch with. But no one has seen or heard from her.

"We just want you home mum. Nevaeh Grace is missing her Auntie Helen. We all miss you."

A police spokesperson said: "Police searching for missing Castleford woman Helen Mills have been informed by colleagues in North Yorkshire about a body recovered from a river.
