Six musical will be first major theatre show to return, with drive-in performances

Hit musical Six is set to be the first West End show to resume performances after lockdown – but not in the West End.

Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss’s show, which had been selling out every night until theatres had to close, will be performed on a tour of 12 drive-in concert venues around the country, with both the West End and UK touring casts starring.

Six will be staged as part of the Utilita Live From the Drive-In summer season, taking place at Colesdale Farm in Enfield as its London venue (from September 8-12), and travelling to Birmingham, Bolton, Bristol, Cheltenham, Edinburgh, Leeds, Lincoln, Liverpool, Milton Keynes, Newmarket and Teesside.

The cast will perform an eight-show week at each venue, to audiences of 300 vehicles per show. Viewers will be allowed to watch the show from a designated area beside their car, to keep in line with government social distancing guidelines. The stage will be accompanied by large screens, so those parked further away will be able to see.

Six is one of the most popular new musicals in the world at the moment. Prior to lockdown, there were six productions taking place around the globe.

The musical tells a new “herstory” of Henry VIII’s six wives, who have teamed up as a girl band and are on tour each telling their own stories. Anne Boleyn’s song Don’t Lose Ur Head, which is sung in the style of Lily Allen, has been shared more than half a billion times on Tik Tok. In February, the original cast album surpassed 100 million streams online.

Tickets go on sale at 8am on Friday July 3, livenation.co.uk
