Six money changes due in July including €100 cost of living bonus, electricity and bin charges increase

There are six different money changes due this month as well as the final €100 cost of living bonus which will be paid in the coming weeks.

While July is a busy month with families as schools are out for summer there are several bill increases set to come in amid the cost of living crisis, reports RSVP Live. Bills that are expected to increase in July include bin collection charges, electricity and gas, toll charges on the M50, tv channels/ broadband package increases, and a rise in health insurance premiums.

But there is some good news as the Government's final €100 cost of living bonus from the spring cost of living package is on the way. The final cash boost is a bonus of €100 per child in the Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance which is due the week beginning 10 July.

Applications for the scheme are now open and will close on 30 September.

Here's everything you need to know about six money changes to expect in July:

Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance

The Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance is due to be paid the week beginning 10 July. As part of this scheme, an additional €100 payment will be paid for each child receiving this allowance.

For a child aged from 4 to 11 years, the payment will be €260 and for those aged 12 to 22 it will be €385. Applications are now open until 30 September, although most families will be paid automatically with no need for an application.

The Department of Social Protection said in a statement: "The majority of payments will be paid automatically with no application form required.

"Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance will be paid automatically to more than 120,000 families in respect of approximately 210,000 children during the week beginning 10 July.

"The Department of Social Protection is currently processing these payments and customers will receive confirmation informing them of their automatic entitlement, on their MyWelfare account or by post. This will result in approximately €70 million being paid to these families during the week beginning 10 July."

Bin collections

Greyhound Recycling and Panda Waste are both increasing their charges due to the rising costs facing their operation.

Greyhound Recycling has over 100,000 customers in the city, and it is increasing its monthly charges by €3 which came into effect on 1 July. The monthly change has now increased from €16.50 to €24.47, which is rise of 48% less than 18 months.

Panda Waste has also increased its quarterly collection fees, rising from €75 up to €83 this month. This means that there will be an annual increase in bin charges of €32 for customers.

Irish Life Health

In May, Irish Life Health confirmed it will introduce in July an average increase of 5% on its health insurance premiums. The increase came into effect on July 1.

Toll increases

On Saturday 1 July, tolls on motorways across the country increased following a six month deferment by the Government. The cost of the deferral was estimated to be around €12.5 million.

For a car, M50 tolls have increased €3.20 for an unregistered vehicle up to €3.50. For those with video tolling it will go from €2.70 to 2.90 and tagged cars will increase 20c from €2.10 to €2.30.

The Port Tunnel will be unaffected by the new changes.

Virgin Media

Virgin Media customers are being warned that they can expect a rise in their broadband and TV costs from the start of July due to a 2.4pc increase.

This means that broadband only packages from Virgin Media will go up by €48 each year.

Electricity and gas

Daragh Cassidy of Bonkers.ie reported that hundreds of thousands of people availed of discounts for their electricity and gas between June and September 2022, with many signing up to one-year deals.

But this means that people who did this will see their energy increasing as they return to pre-discount rates this July.
